Abstract:

Stacks of dielectric films are widely used for optical mirrors, filters and beam splitters. While linear optical interactions of light and the dielectric material control the properties of such optics, nonlinear optical behavior is unavoidable when the incident intensity is large. In our tutorial presentation, we will discuss multi-layer structures tailored for third harmonic generation and opportunities and challenges toward the development of frequency tripling mirrors.
